Declare yourself! Save the World.
We're a couple of kiwis (New Zealanders) who grew up in the '80s. As kids, our entire country got behind an anti-nuclear movement that resulted in - shall we say - a small tiff with the American Government (we got kicked out of a national security pact) and national legislation with overwhelming support: New Zealand would be, and remains today, a nuclear weapon free zone.
While nuclear weapons might feel like something that is overwhelmingly complex, or just "baked in" to the status quo, we're convinced that in fact they are both a metaphor for, and a cause of, much of the conflict in today's world. They consumer huge amounts of taxpayer dollars that could be used for schools or roads or veterans or toxic waste cleanup or functioning city water systems (insert here what your community needs but cannot afford). They are designed for one thing, and one thing only: to destroy lives, communities, ecosystems, financial and health systems. And they provide a handful of countries a true "super power" to do pretty much anything they want. We're looking at you, Putin.
Those activist kids (us) became activist adults (also us). And we saw that not only were people not talking about nuclear weapons, they felt like they couldn't do anything about it anyway.
So we decided to solve that problem, and we built the first ever brand for nuclear disarmament (yes, really, mom!). Free ZonesTM is both a state of mind and a line of merch. Half of all our profits are donated to the incredible people and organizations working to keep our kids, our families, and communities safe and secure by advancing nuclear disarmament.
